Our client, is a major global pharmaceutical company and they now wish to appoint a Rare Disease Franchise Specialist to join their company. The role is a permanent full-time position. They are looking for someone different to the norm in that the individual appointed can demonstrate that they have strong scientific knowledge, the cross functional leadership & commercial aptitude of a marketing lead & the drive of a Key Account Manager and an ability to be a trusted partner in the stakeholder networks.

Commercial experience in the Rare Disease area would be a distinct advantage.

Customer Focus & Partnership

  • Establish and sustain strong relationships with KOLs and CoE’s for rare disease, partnering to build stakeholder networks
  • Identify and nurture new KOLs in the rare disease area.
  • Consolidate and build on the successful relationships built up by our client over many years in the Endocrinology marketplace.
  • Continue to drive and improve upon the many and varied market leading customer focused programmes with key endocrine customers and centres
  • Understand and fulfil specific needs of centres of excellence for rare disease
  • Establish strong relationships with patient organizations for rare disease
  • Develop initiatives to increase rare disease awareness among key stakeholders and find patients
  • Support the Rare Disease Patient Registry, providing guidance and assistance to relevant sites as necessary.
  • Identify and coordinate access to external datasets to help understand clinical prevalence, penetrance and disease progression of rare disease
  • Initiate collaborative projects with key stakeholders of rare disease, including research.

This role will be in house and field based with a minimum 60% of the time spent in field.


  • Provide input into Regional strategy & execution of Brand strategy in country.
  • Lead implementation of key brand programs
  • Responsible for selling, creating and developing strategies for the Rare Disease Brand and, ensuring that sales goals are consistently met or exceeded in the endocrine and later Rare Disease assets that are commercialized.
  • Accountable for preparing patient based sales forecast, and providing country input into overall Regional numbers.
  • Leadership of in country cross functional teams, this will involve leadership of others that need to collaborate in the various activities, including, Medical, Health and Value, Corporate Affairs, Legal, Logistics and Supply and Commercial.
  • Accountable for the planning, spending & controlling of budgets, developing regular forecast updates to aid financial planning.

  • Broad commercial background with strong financial acumen and negotiation skills
  • Ideally, be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of contracts, tenders, formularies and related systems. Very strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Can demonstrate a strong understanding of marketing strategies and tactics and how they can be implanted to deliver for both our client and their customers.


  • Ensure 100% compliance with all relevant Internal & External Guidelines, protocols and SOP's. prompt documentation and reporting of all adverse events or product quality complaints according to internal requirements.

Key Relationships – Internal & External

  • Rare Disease Ireland commercial and medical colleagues.
  • Strong relationships with Rare Disease office and its officers as well as all relevant Patient Advocacy Groups.
  • Rare Disease support functions and enablers, mainly GL&S, Finance, Legal, Health and Value, Regulatory and Corporate Affairs.
  • X-BU, in-market leadership and marketing teams

Experience Required.

  • Sustained success in a Key Account Manager role preferably in Pharmaceuticals or associated Health Care industry in speciast or rare disease areas.
  • Can demonstrate a strong understanding of marketing strategies and tactics and how they can be implanted to deliver for both our client and their customers.
  • Having marketing experience is a distinct advantage.
  • A minimum of 5 years successful experience in specialist therapy markets.
  • Excellent understanding of treatment pathways including non-drug therapies.
  • Excellence in managing multiple stakeholders including clinical and non-clinical in the specialist care settings.
  • Excellent Project Management skills.
  • Science Degree or equivalent 3rd level qualification.
  • At least 3 years Key Account Management Experience.
  • Prior Experience in Rare Diseases a distinct advantage.
  • High technical ability on handling complex clinical evidence.
