Head of Sales – Prescription Medicines -  UK Market – Dublin (Ireland) based – November 2018 - Urgent

Our client, a growing pharmaceutical company wish to appoint an experienced Head of Sales for the UK ethical prescription market based out of Dublin to join their team. The successful person will be responsible for our client’s ethical products business in the UK pharmaceutical market.

The position is a full time permanent position.

Role Description

This role is focussed on implementing the division strategies across our clients’ core business in Primary and Secondary Care medicine. You will work with a team of 3-4 Sales Managers, 1 HDM and 1 Key Account Manager and their team of (26) Business Development managers to ensure that all of their prescription product portfolio is managed and promoted in line with the company objectives and targets. This will involve promoting their entire range of therapies, devices, diagnostic equipment, services, Prescription medicines and food supplements. You will be responsible for liaising with the Directors and other department heads to ensure that all facets of the divisions are running smoothly, on target and within budget. This role requires a very strong understanding of the landscape of Ophthalmology within both the NHS and Private sector. The role will require you to spend min 50% of your time in the field with the Sales Managers, their teams and their customers and time in the Head Office in Dublin.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accompany SM’s on FV’s to review their performance
  • Work with Product Managers to ensure all Brand Plans are being carried out in the field by the relevant teams
  • Work with our HDM to ensure our Primary Care strategy is working more effectively and that he is actively engaging and communicating with his Primary & Secondary Care colleagues
  • Coordinate with L&D to ensure all of our BDM’s are continuing to develop their clinical and sales skills
  • Work with SM and HR to ensure all BDM’s are being assessed properly via PDMP process
  • Ensure that SM and BDM have accurate reports and are using them to better manage their division and individual territories.
  • Provide up to date reports and analysis for Directors based on all agreed KPI’s
  • Monitor any policy changes that may have an impact on our business
  • Monitor and assess SM’s own performance and support their IDP
  • Work across multiple stakeholder and support SM/BDM in how to improve this.   – Secondary Care, Primary Care, CCG, Private Ophthalmology
  • Work to help create a very focussed team who have clear objectives and a result focus

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Business or Science related third level qualification required
  • Professional qualifications and memberships desirable
  • Masters /MBA in related field – Business, Sales, Marketing - preferable

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • 10+ years in Sales and 5+ years’ experience in a related area (NHS) is required
  • Personal Effectiveness - must be able to work under pressure and autonomously; successfully manage a very diverse and demanding workload.
  • Flexible approach to managing work life balance and prepared to travel regularly across UK and between Ireland the UK.
  • Experience in account management is desirable
  • Ability to take on challenging product knowledge for a broad and diverse portfolio
  • Ability to influence and lead others without direct-line management responsibility
  • Energy, resilience and enthusiasm is a key advantage in this role

  • Proven ability to drive a Sales process from plan to close.
  • Strong leadership skills and an ability to inspire sales teams.
  • Demonstrable experience as head of sales developing client focus, differentiated and achievable solutions

  • Communication and interpersonal skills - comfortable and capable of communicating with all levels within and outside the business both written and verbal with a high level of professionalism.
  • Organisational skills - self-motivated and able to demonstrate strong organisation and prioritisation skills in a sales and relationship management environment.
  • Strong technical and computer literacy; skilled in the use of tools such as Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel.

 

Candidates should have current or previous Head of Sales or Senior Sales Management experience in the UK pharmaceutical industry.
